Building overview

Seidler's octagon on Martin Place

Harry Seidler's octagonal tower on Martin Place — 228 metres of white concrete, Australia's tallest building when it opened, and still one of the most recognisable silhouettes in the city.

Completed in 1977 and known as the MLC Centre until 2021, the tower rises 67 storeys in an all-concrete octagonal form that was among the tallest reinforced-concrete structures in the world on completion. Dexus and the Dexus Wholesale Property Fund have owned it outright since April 2019, and a $170 million precinct transformation by Woods Bagot, carried out with Seidler & Associates, ran from 2019 to 2022.

There is more than 67,000 square metres of office accommodation above a retail and dining podium carrying international luxury flagships on Castlereagh and King Streets, a food court on Level 6, an IGA food hall and the 1,200-seat Theatre Royal Sydney, which reopened in December 2021. Tenants get a dedicated office entry on Castlereagh Street, end-of-trip facilities, onsite fitness and wellness classes, 24/7 security and a concierge team. Martin Place Station — the T4 Eastern Suburbs line and the Sydney Metro — is directly adjacent to the precinct.
