Building overview

Lifted ten floors above the First Government House site

A 227-metre premium tower on the site of Australia's First Government House, lifted ten floors above the street on transfer beams over a sandstone-clad podium.

Completed in 1993 to a Denton Corker Marshall design with Johnson Pilton Walker, built by Grocon with Arup as structural engineer, Governor Phillip Tower is finished in polished grey granite and topped by slender stainless steel fins. It won the 1994 RAIA National Award for the Most Outstanding Work of Commercial Architecture in Australia and the Sir John Sulman Medal. The Museum of Sydney sits at the Bridge Street end of the same site.

The tower is one half of the One Farrer precinct, owned jointly by Dexus and Lendlease's APPF Commercial and sharing its address with the adjoining Governor Macquarie Tower. It offers 37 office levels with floorplates of 1,000 to 1,460 square metres, and holds NABERS ratings of 5.0 Energy, 4.0 Water, 5.5 Indoor Environment and 4.5 Waste. Occupiers share the Dexus Place conference facility, The Terrace event space, the Activ8 end-of-trip and wellness centre, and the Raphael Lane dining precinct.
